Yamaha Modus F02

Encased in a stylish body, a contemporary update on the classic upright piano shape, the Yamaha Modus F02 is a beautiful addition to any home or studio. With a combination of superb sound generation and a keyboard that matches many grand pianos for subtlety, you have an electric piano that equals the capacity of an acoustic piano and adds many new features.

Sound

The Modus F02 is made with Yamaha’s powerful Real Grand Expression (RGE) sound engine. The aim of this sound engine is to mimic the tone of a real concert grand piano, and to give the pianist the all the nuanced techniques that come naturally with the expert construction of an acoustic grand piano.

The Modus F02 will respond to the pianist’s playing with real sensitivity, the RGE provides wonderful tonal changes. Smooth Release technology gives perfect enunciation of staccato notes and gives them extended resonance, doing the job done by dampers in a real concert grand.

The Acoustic Optimizer is a technology developed by Yamaha and as such will only be found in their instruments, such as the Modus F02. Strategically located within the electric piano, it controls acoustical flow to ensure that the Yamaha Modus F02 has one of the most accomplished digital piano sounds in existence.

Technique

The Natural Wood (NW) keyboard endows the Yamaha Modus F02 with a keyboard action which imitates that of a concert grand piano, except where an acoustic would strike the strings the NW activates individual sensors in the RGE sound engine.

The keys are made from real white wood and the key-tops from synthetic ivory. The synthetic ivory gives the keys a softness and porosity that aids grip and limits slipperiness, vital for pianists who pride themselves on their sophisticated technique.

The NW keyboard is also built with Graded Hammer Action, which affects the weight of the keys in order to get the natural heaviness felt on notes of the lower register and the lightness experienced by pianists when sounding notes in the higher register. This superb keyboard is almost faultless in copying the action of a real concert grand piano and makes sure that the Modus F02 loses very little in terms of a musician’s technique when transferring sound production from acoustic to digital.

Style

As on an acoustic piano there are all three pedals: damper, sostenuto, and soft. Features not found on an acoustic would be the two headphone ports so that two people, perhaps a student and a teacher, can listen in to the performance together. A split mode can divide the keyboard in two, each half playing a different voice, complimenting the educative possibilities and creating the chance for duets.

The Yamaha Modus F02 also features 50 pre-set classical and jazz piano songs. The USB flash memory drive can expand this collection and supports both MIDI and WAV audio files. Music played on the Modus F02 can be recorded directly onto a removable USB memory source enabling performances to be saved and listened to again using a variety of musical devices.
