Roland RD-64
A compact digital piano with 64-notes, the Roland RD-64 combines the superb Ivory Feel-G keyboard with a high class sound quality all in an easily transportable body. There are also physical controllers that give the RD-64 much more scope than the standard digital piano.
Sound
RD-64 is given expression by the SuperNATURAL sound engine, this controls the delicate timbre of the acoustic sounds perfectly whilst also producing pristine electrical sounds. There are 12 voices on-board, focussed solely on a piano range and including grand pianos, electric pianos, organs, and clavs.
Each voice has its own specially selected effects that are controlled through the EFX 1 and EFX 2 buttons. These include enchancer and damper resonance for the grand piano voices, tremolo and phaser for the electric pianos, and rotary for the organs.
A 2-band Equalizer gives the user oversight of the whole sonic structure. Whilst 128-notes of polyphony mean that there is no unwanted ‘dropping out’ of sounds.
Keyboard
The RD-64 has a 64-note keyboard, giving it greater manoeuvrability whether on stage, in the studio, in class, or for transportation and storage. It is also lightweight at 12kg or 28lbs.
But Roland do not compromise on quality. It has the Ivory Feel-G keyboard with escapement, which is fully weighted, graded, and touch responsive so that a pianist loses nothing when transferring technique from an acoustic instrument.
The material, designed to give the same look as the classic ebony and ivory, also imitates its physical capacity to absorb moisture meaning that the keys will never get slippery enough to impair playing even in a heated gig.
Digital
With the press of a button the Roland RD-64 flicks from piano mode to controller mode and becomes a master keyboard. Located on the left side is a control panel with several physical controllers. These include Equaliser Knobs, a Roland pitch bend/modulation lever, and a D-beam controller. The RD-64 can also put the potential of the SuperNATURAL sounds in the hands of the Integra 7 sound module and the Jupiter-50 and 80 synthesisers.
Connections on the RD-64 include x3 pedal jacks, including damper; MIDI out; USB type B to connect straight to a computer; Input and Output jacks; and a headphone jack.
