Kurzweil M3W

A full-sized 88-key digital piano, the Kurzweil M3W creates an exceptional sound field; perfect for audiophiles and traditional acoustic pianists. Despite its sophisticated technology it is simple to operate and is suitable for players of all ability.

Powered by the unique Mara sound chip and VAST architecture the M3W produces incredibly realistic instrument sounds. There are 200 voices on the M3W ranging from the Triple Strike Grand Piano through electric pianos, organs, strings, brass, guitars, and many more.

The Layer and Split modes enable selection of two of these voices at once, enhancing harmonic possibility. 4 user pre-sets can be coordinated to Favourite buttons allow the pianist to configure their preferred sound worlds and call them up instantly via the buttons.

The 4-speaker stereo sound system made with 50W amps gives a strong volume level. The down-facing 165mm woofers combine with the partial back panel to optimise sound dispersion for both player and audience. Whilst the woofers deal with the bass, the tweeters, located immediately behind the keys, make sure that the treble notes are also given clear expression.

The Kurzweil M3W is installed with the Italian made Fatar TP/40W keyboard. This is a “wood embedded” fully weighted keyboard, giving a similar feeling to an acoustic piano’s keyboard. It is hammer motion rather than key motion, which gives superb dynamic control over the music. The touch sensitive keys mean that the volume of a note can be varied according to the subtlety of the pianist’s technique. The weighting is graded in 4 zones to ensure that the bass notes have a heavier feel than the treble, just like on an acoustic piano.

There are 64-notes of polyphony, meaning that the up to 64 notes can be sounded at the same time without any unwanted dropping out. This is fundamental to more advanced technique and use of the sustain pedals. The M3W has all 3 standard pedals, soft, sustain, and sostenuto, built into the piano’s body.

The M3W maximises its usability with an angled control panel and scrolling LED display. Features such as transpose, reverb, and chorus are all easily accessible, as are the voice banks.

For accompaniment there are 51 pre-set demo songs already on the M3W and 100 drum tracks. A connection for a digital music player is situated on the front panel for easy access to a library of the player’s favourite songs, which can then be played through the piano and accompanied. The M3W has a strong double-track recording facility and enough memory to hold up to 20 different songs.

The connections on the back of the unit are composed of Aux In/Out and MIDI In/Out ports, a USB type B connection, which allows for a direct cabled link to a computer, and 2 headphone jacks.
