Casio PX-760

An excellent all-round piano that manages to accurately capture the experience of playing an acoustic piano and combine this with superb sound detail, the Casio PX-760 is a first-class option for pianists of all levels who want a digital piano that focusses on traditional musical technique without overwhelming it in digital effects.

As part of Casio’s Privia series of digital pianos the PX-760 is made for the pianist sophisticated enough to realise the importance of a well-engineered keyboard to their playing technique. It has the Tri-Sensor Scaled Hammer Action Keyboard II, which optimises the sensitivity towards the timing of a note’s sounding and the immediacy with which the same note can be played repeatedly. With three optional dynamic levels of touch sensitivity managing the volume of the note and a graded weighting system that makes the bass keys heavier than the treble, just as on an acoustic piano, the Casio PX-760 is in possession of a truly brilliant keyboard.

The three standard pedals found on all good upright and grand pianos, soft, sustain, and sostenuto are built into the PX-760, maximising its technical potential.

There are 18 different voices on the PX-760 covering a selection of core instruments. Most important of these being the piano voices, which are all stereo sampled for a beautiful tone.

The sound source uses Casio’s Multi-Dimensional Morphing (AiR) Acoustic and Intelligence Resonator, which means that these voices are sounded with superb quality and that detail is paid to the delicate refinements that, previously, only a real acoustic piano could achieve, such as the gradual decay of a note’s quality and the string resonances.

There are speakers situated at either side of the piano making an excellent output for these sound qualities, they are more than adequate to be heard throughout a large room, and with headphone jacks external speakers can easily be attached to give the PX-760 extra power.

As a digital piano the Casio PX-760 offers a wealth of features that are impossible to include on an acoustic. Layer and Split modes allow the use of two different voices at the same time, the first by sounding the both of the voices for each note played, and the second by halving the keyboard and assigning a different voice to each half. With reverb, chorus, brilliance and DSP the PX-760 gives its player the option of mixing in extra richness to their music.

A lesson function with the capability to train both right and left hand techniques separately is complemented by the Duet mode, which is fashioned to enable a teacher and pupil to use the keyboard together. 60 in-built songs and 10 Concert Play songs are instantly available to learn, with another option letting the user customise 10 of their own songs.

A double track recorder makes it easy to imprint performances for playback and the USB drive opens a route to transfer the recording to a computer, both allowing it be manipulated with software and freeing the PX-760’s track to capture another performance. Add to this MIDI connectivity and the PX-760 finds itself with features to satisfy even ambitious pianist.
