Casio GP-300

A Grand Piano Hybrid with the look of an upright, the Casio GP-300 is made to mimic the sonic behaviour of a real grand piano. The GP-300 has a full-sized keyboard, superb sound, and many other digital options.

Keyboard

Casio’s Natural Grand Hammer Action Keyboard has the full 88-keys, which are weighted to simulate an acoustic keyboard. The touch response has 5 dynamic levels, an excellent standard for a digital piano; with this the pianist can control the volume of notes according to the power they play the key with. It is graded hammer action meaning that, just like an acoustic piano, the lower register is heavier than the higher.

The keyboard can be split into two equal octave ranges using Duet mode; it is possible to alter the range by up to 2 octaves. It is also able to transpose the whole range by 2 octaves for harmony with vocalists and other instruments.

The three pedals, damper, soft, and sostenuto, are all built into the GP-300. The damper is equipped by half-pedalling capability which has continuous recognition to 5 levels.

Sound

Made with Casio’s Acoustic and Intelligence Resonator (AiR) grand sound source, the GP-300 has an incredible sonic quality. It copies the resonances and vibrations of a real grand piano instead of just replaying a clean note. 256-notes of polyphony means that the most complicated music is easily within the GP-300’s range. There is a lid over the speakers that the player can open or close, copying the effect created by a grand piano’s lid.

There are 26 voices on the GP-300, mainly focussing on the grand piano sound. The collaboration with C. Bechstein has allowed the development of several classic grand piano voices associated with the cities of Berlin, Hamburg, and Vienna.

There is a host of pre-recorded songs that can be used for accompaniment. For the ambitious there is the Concert Play feature, with 15 songs, that brings some wonderful classical pieces from the western tradition to interactive life. There is also a 60-song library with a wide range of types and 10 expansion tracks ready to be filled by the user.

Digital

There are two recording options: MIDI and Audio. The MIDI recording has 1 song with 3 tracks and a playback option. The Audio recording facility has capacity for 99 songs of 25 minutes each.

The GP-300 has many different digital effects. It can imitate the acoustics of a concert hall, with 12 varieties. There are 7 levels of brilliance and 4 of chorus. Listening position settings include a play position and 3 different listener positions.

A Lesson function teaches the techniques of both hands, independently or simultaneously. As an instrument to learn on the GP-300 is enhanced by the 2 headphone jacks and the metronome.

As to connectivity there are MIDI In/Out and Aux In/Out ports, enabling a range of uses that are not available on acoustic grand pianos.
